Kurt Bannert, or “Mr. Kurt” as the kids call him, is a 2009 graduate of Black Forest Academy in Kandern, Germany. Upon completion of high school, he attended Ouachita Baptist University, graduating in 2012 with degrees in Psychology and in Russian. He also received a Master’s Degree in Counseling from East Texas Baptist University in 2014 and is licensed by the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor with Supervisor status.

Mr. Kurt provides mental health services to all OCISD students and staff as needed, and acts as a resource for families looking for mental health services in the community. He has spent over a decade in mental health, having worked in private practice, with a local mental health authority and in the school system. He is passionate about helping children and families navigate life in a safe environment and works to ensure every student and staff member knows that they matter.

He is married to his college sweetheart Macy, who owns Wild Honey Creamery in Longview, and has two children, Lane and Josie, who keep him busy most days. In his spare time Mr. Kurt loves traveling, visiting national parks, and spending time with his family.
